RISM Landes Awards

The RISM Landes Awards, made possible by the late Dr. Ruth Landes,
are for field research on subjects that were of interest to her
as an anthropologist. These subjects include: race or ethnic relations,
gender issues, education in a comparative perspective and problems
of aging. The awards seek to encourage outstanding scholarship
that will advance our interdisciplinary understanding of the topics
specified above. From 1992 through 1996, annual competitions were
held for individual scholars and students. Depending on the applicant
pool, each year a senior fellowship for established social scientists,
up to three junior fellowships for social scientists with fewer
than six years beyond the doctorate, two field grants for advanced
graduate students in support of doctoral field research, and five
training grants for qualified graduate students that provide structured
field opportunities for training in disciplinary methods and techniques
could be granted. A list of the award
recipients is available. In 1997, the RISM Landes Awards program
was restructured to provide competitive grants
for supervised fieldwork in the social sciences.
Presently, the RISM Landes Awards program is being redefined.
Applications are not being accepted until the new program features
are complete. Check this page again in May 15, 2007 for new program
information.
