Burnt Church elections scheduled for August

MIRAMICHI - The Burnt Church First Nation will hold its band elections on August 18. Nominations for the twelve council seats and the chiefs position will open on July 7.

The last band election was held in June 1999. Wilbur Dedam reclaimed the chief¹s post from Burton Martin. It was a position Dedam had previously held for 18 years.

But the struggle for power in council chambers was won by seven new and reelected councillors who had majority voting power around the table.

The only band councillor who had indicated he will not reoffer is Brian Bartibogue.{ au: Gail Savoy dt: 06/28/01 sc: mleader}
