A New Brunswick
native has been sentenced to two years in jail for firing a shot at
a boat carrying four commercial fishermen during a confrontation on
Miramichi Bay last September.
Gordon Augustine,
39, was convicted of possession of a dangerous weapon after a shot
was fired at a commercial fishing boat from a native vessel near Burnt
Church, N.B., on Sept. 22. The shot shattered a toilet on the boat
in an incident that received national publicity as part of the ongoing
conflict over a native lobster fishery on the bay last fall. {
